Sometimes the only option for my prospects is Bankruptcy or Debt Consolidation. Now as a Credit Consultant my job is to restore and maintain a squeaky clean credit report so it kills me to send them off to file BK or consolidate their debt however it’s their only option. I prefer a non-profit in the Central Valley, CA (because that’s where my office is located) who can offer these services and become part of my referral directory. If anyone out there can steer me in the right direction I’d really appreciate it. Thank you

OK, i have a friend who’s around £20,000 in debt with about 5 credit cards and a loan.
She’s been to the Citizens advice beauru and they’ve said for her to pull her socks up and not to spend unnecessarily.
Both her and her husband got herself into this debt, which is all in her name, and now the husband has done one, and gone, leaving her to deal with it all and 3 children.
She cant remortgage her house as its in negative equity.
As i said she went to citizens advice and they didn’t help at all.
Is there a reputable company out there that could help her ?
What steps can she do now to help her in this situation ?
She now cant afford the minimum payments each month on the credit cards and loans, now the husband has gone.
She doesn’t want to lose her house either.

In a debt consolidation program is it likely that you will be able to obtain additional credit?

What is the benefit of using debt consolidation for credit card debt? I am trying to decide to either call the credit card companies myself and negotiate for a lower payoff/settlement amount, or to use a debt consolidation company? If I negotiate with the credit cards directly, will that be considered a charge off? I would want to settle myself if I can to avoid paying all the months of high interest. But if I use debt consolidation, then they will charge me a fee every month for so many years? What is their purpose? What would be the best route to go financially?
