I have spoken to a lady from a debt consolidation company and it sounds quite good. But what are the pros and cons?

We are looking at an unsecured debt repayment plan through a third party debt consolidation company. Can we buy a house while we are on that plan?

My husband and I are trying to straighten out our finances because we have a lot of debt (credit cards mostly) and we want to buy a house. Everyone tells us that getting a a debt consolidation loan will help because we can combine all of our debts into one monthly payment, but we kept getting turned down or offered a low amount because we have too much credit being used. I need to take oout £30k for debt consolidation. Is a secured loan (i can’t get an unsecured loan) over 5 years or remortgage. I suppose if i remortgage it will be over 20 years? Any advice?
