An expensive week!

I spent 8 hours in the car yesterday taking DS back to college. So today I’m having a rest day before we head off tomorrow for a 6 hour drive in the other direction for DD’s photography course. It’s been an expensive week here unfortunately!

I had the car booked in for a service earlier this week and had budgeted $200 for it, the usual fee. Well I nearly passed out when I went to pick up the car

Home Project #1 – The Office

OK – It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get down to the nitty-gritty of making over this house for sale. Every week I’ll be blogging our progress and tracking our expenses.

Our first room is the office. It’s a small room off the main lounge room & kitchen that could also be used for a formal dining room. I moved my office into this room when Dad came to live with us.

A quick update before I dash out the door for work ( only 3 days to go!)

I didn’t get anything done on my list for the weekend, ended up in bed sick for a few days
Heard back from the loans officer yesterday – everything is looking good for approval! YAY!
I bought a mini Christmas tree for $2.50 in Spotlight – thats my decorations done for this year
Dad has deteriorated further and been moved to a new ward for high care, bed fast patients
Thankyou to Jane & Sara for my lovely Christmas cards – they really cheered me up ((hugs))

My boss has a habit of waiting till she is about to leave the office to send out her nasty emails (so obvious!!) Sure enough there was one waiting for me when I walked in yesterday morning,about the need for cutback etc and complaints about our section. I’m determined to ignore her negativity – at least till I get back after my holidays. Fingers crossed this loan approval comes through soon!

The next few days will be flat out here. Have to finish my Christmas shopping, do all my stats at work (ugh!) and pick up DS for Christmas.

Finding my Christmas mojo.

Only 10 days till Christmas – how did that sneak up on me! I realised this week how lacking in the Christmas spirit I am this year. My head is elsewhere – sorting out the refinance, planning the renovations and getting healthy. Also I don’t go down to the shops much so you kind of miss the Christmass frenzy/ buildup.

I had to go to the shops on Tuesday and people were rushing about, kids were getting photos with Santa and the place was bustling! What I did miss was the christmas carols. If I do venture into the shops at Christmas I want to hear carols and Christmas songs. I love them and they make me feel all nostalgic for Christmas’ past. They bring back the excitement of waiting for Santa, the joy of going to midnight mass when I met my husband, the services on Christmas morning with my mum.

It’s made me realise that we need to establish some new traditions in our family now that my kids are grown and Dad is no longer living here. When the kids were little we would decorate the house and garden with lights and every night for the week before Christmas we played carols in the yard and waved to the people driving around viewing the lights.

I remember singing carols with my grandfather on the front porch. He was german, and loved to sing opera, he used to perform in amauter productions when he was young. I’ve just realised writing this that Christmas become bittersweet as you get older, children are grown and parents are gone… yes we need to make some new traditions!

It’s been a busy week and I haven’t been online as much as usual. I’ve been juicing this week and it takes extra time in the mornings to prepare my juices for the day, so I have less time to read blogs before work. I’m decided to blog my weight loss journey, my blog is 50by50.

Here’s a general update:

Cars

My car has been playing up over the last few weeks. It’s going to need a new battery and some repairs. It’s Dads old car and while it’s probably OK for running around town I drive 580kms per week to get to work, so it’s going to have to be replaced in 2012.

DH has been looking at valuations for selling his car. There is a bit of work he wants to do on it first and he is still recovering from his broken arm so it will have to wait. But selling his car is on the agenda for 2012 as well.

Consolidation loan

In the time it took for me to complete and submit the paperwork the bank has changed it’s application forms! So I spent today filling them out and I’ll get them in the post this Monday.

Credit Cards

I paid $800 off Bankwest this week. Only $977 to go!? What I really love about the debt snowball is getting the statement on the card you’re snowballing – seeing all those payments listed one after another is really motivating!
